“Prediction Is Very Difficult, Especially If It Is About The Future”
So said Nils Bohr, Nobel laureate in Physics, and he’s quite right. Yet the world is full of people claiming to be able to tell you your future. You only have to open a newspaper to find a horoscope, or visit a fair to come across a so-called fortune teller. But these things are usually so vague and generic that they will most likely apply to everyone at some point anyway. They certainly aren’t getting their information from the Creator of the universe!
The Bible, on the other hand, is full of predictions – prophecies – of specific things that hadn’t yet happened, which God revealed to people and inspired them to write down. Later on, these things amazingly took place. In the last session you heard about some of these, including how God said the city of Tyre would be scraped away and made a bare rock (see Ezekiel 26:3-4) – which is exactly what Alexander the Great did 250 years later. The exile of the Jewish people into Babylon was also prophesied, including exactly how long it would last, and the fact that they would return to their land – which was incredibly unlikely, yet it happened.
But perhaps the most astonishing examples are prophecies about Jesus Christ, predicting things like where He would be born, what He would do, how He would be killed, and that He would rise from the dead. They were all written down hundreds of years before He walked on earth, yet they all came true!
