Freedom in Christ Course; day 62 Nugget
Set Free From… Set Free To…
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
We spend quite a bit of time during this section of the course looking inwards and thinking about our “issues” – the things in ourselves and our lives we would like to see changed. That is necessary but just getting free from those things is not the end goal.
Let’s take a pause today and turn our thoughts outwards.
The purpose of being set free from things is so we are free to do the things that God has prepared in advance for us to do.
Isn’t it a mind-blowing idea that God Himself prepared specific things for you to do even before you were born? Now, by taking hold of your freedom in Christ and choosing to keep renewing your mind to the truth in God’s Word, you are preparing yourself to be even more effective in doing them. And because you know who you are in Christ, you won’t be doing them in order to win God’s approval – you already have that! You’ll be doing them simply because you want to, out of gratitude and love. As we get more of our “issues” dealt with, we are more able to live lives that show His glorious holiness and infinite worth.
Take some time to thank God that He has things for you to do. Commit yourself afresh to renewing your mind so that you will be able to do them effectively.
This short film might encourage you. It’s the story of a lady who came out of a cult that emphasized having to work for God. She came to Christ but still felt she had to work for God. She discovered her identity in Christ and now does what she does for God simply because she chooses to, out of pure gratitude.
